SKI GUIDING

You could be accessing off piste skiing from lifts in a resort, hut to hut touring in the Alps or day touring from summit to sea in the fjords of Iceland. We can also teach you the systems for negotiating crevasse and avalanche terrain. In April 2026 we are going to be skiing in the Lyngen Alps and the mountains around Tromso in Norway, so get in touch to plan a ski adventure with us.

Transport

In the Alps the guide will have a vehicle and will meet you at the start of the week at an agreed location, you may need to get public transport to that location. The guide will then provide any transport during the week. Or in the case of Norway or Iceland we will need to hire a vehicle and the cost will be split between the group.

Season

The months of January and February are typically best for lift accessed off piste and lower level day tours, while the high mountains tend to be more avalanche prone and the spring months of March and April are classic hut to hut ski touring season. In northern Norway and Iceland you can easily be skiing into May.

Guiding Fee

The daily rate for ski guiding starts at £530. All the guides expenses such as accommodation, food, lifts and transport costs will also have to be covered on top of this.

Ratios

All guiding is carried out at a max ratio of 1:6, but any technical routes will be guided at a lower ratio. If you have a larger team, then more guides will be required.

Kit

There is a ski touring kit list on the blog, which you can see if you follow the link here.

Refuges

The Alps have a unique network of refuges which often have a great atmosphere and delicious food. We can either use the hut system for a week of hut to hut skiing or we can day tour while staying in valley accommodation.

Insurance

You will need to get yourself good travel and rescue insurance. The BMC insurance is very comprehensive and covers both travel and rescue, The Austrian Alpine Club do a basic rescue insurance. Both of these will also get you a club membership discount in the huts. We strongly recommend that you have insurance that will cover any costs in the event that you cannot attend the trip due to injury or illness.

Additional costs

Hut costs for yourself and the guide which are often around £70 pp for half board.

Any valley accommodation and food costs for yourself and the guide.

Uplift for yourself and the guide, this can be up to £150 pp for a lift like the Jungfrau lift or there may be none at all.

Fuel and car parking costs.
